Time to look at how to create more space this summer. We explain the benefits of creating more space be it for a Post Lockdown Party, an Event, a Weddings or even just an empty garage.
Why do we collect so much stuff? We know we live in a consumer society, eat too much and there’s little better than enjoying the look of a child’s face when they get their new toys. We also succumb far more often than we would like to the latest fad, trend or gadget.
Create more space and adopt a minimalist approach; it’s cool to have an open plan house, more space to meet and greet, little furniture and even less on top. We aspire to a world of fancy Hotel rooms, yet we know perfectly well that our homes and workspaces are very different, full of the clutter of everyday life.
Benefits of Creating More Space
What is it about space that we love? Room to swing a golf club, store a classic car, do a hobby. At We Clear Junk we think space is a luxury. It is about having the space to do what you want. If you live in a large house you can escape the Kitchen, or children can indulge in their rooms. Having space, especially in a built-up area like London, means luxury.
And being able to do what you want to do is what it is all about. For some reason removing the clobber of life actually liberates us as human beings, escaping to the country, going on holiday it’s all about getting away from all the things you’ve come to possess.
The benefits of creating space mean, therefore, freedom. The librating experience of having more space to do what you want is a wonderful thing. And conversely to our consumer world it also means it shouldn’t cost you a penny. In fact, clearing space in your home or office should mean less stuff and less expense.
We Clear Junk and Space Clearing
It all starts with an idea. And everyone’s circumstances are different. You might have a single room, garage or garden full of old junk, or you might have things spread through your house. You might be building an extension or renovating the office, regardless it all starts with an idea.
If you want to create more space We can help, we’re happy to discuss your needs individually, we are not some corporate conglomerates that requires form filling and tick boxes, we are happy to discuss all your needs and can even come out to your property to make an assessment. No job is too small or too large.
If your desire is to create more space then let us know we can advise. Our teams have seen it all, from crowded allotment garages to attics of old junk. However, where we hope to exceed expectation is that we understand the value of both possessions and space. We understand what is or may not be junk and what is the property that you will value.
Everyone has a different relationship with their possessions and after all, these are things you have spent money on or mean something to you personally. Creating space is not just about throwing away possessions. But it is all about allowing you the freedom to enjoy whatever is left behind.
Indoor Space
For inside houses it is all about clearing floors and better storage, going through room by room assessing the clutter and perhaps moving it to a garage or central point for collection. But what is Rubbish and what is to be kept, that is the hard part. We like to start with Storage. It is adequate and of good enough quality. Storing in cardboard boxes is fine for the short term, but if something has been kept in a cardboard box for 10 years it’s time to assess if it should be kept at all.
In each room, cupboards and shelving can be gone through. We recommend working downwards, things of value can be left where they are or moved to the attic if they are to be stored, but otherwise start at the top of the house and work down, clearing bedrooms after a child has left home or trying to free up under-bed space.
Old sheets, linen, pillows and duvets, do you need all the old ones. It was one thing to save for a rainy day it is another if you have enough. There is a discipline to clearing space.
Finally, the Kitchen and Hallways are where most indoor junk is stored, Rooms tend to have what you use every day, but hallways and kitchens tend to have cupboard space and are likely areas that could be cleared. Move all the unwanted excess to the garage or some central point when it can be gone through.
Outdoor Space
Gardens and sheds are usually real dens of old clutter. Be it a dumping area next to the bonfire or twigs and cuttings from a pruning session, it all has to go. In London, bonfires need to be carefully controlled and in some areas, garden waste can be collected by the council.
However, perhaps clearing the garden is the most satisfying form of space clearance you can do, firstly, it involves almost no throwing away of existing possessions and secondly, the rewarding feeling of reclaiming a patch of land from the stinging nettles is well worth the celebratory drink afterwards.
Going the extra mile is equally rewarding, creating a BBQ area or space to kick a ball around means marital bliss and happy children, people just like being outside no matter how small the pocket-handkerchief of land is.
We have one further piece of advice when clearing space, see what you can reclaim. Can an old chair from inside be used outside? The tiles that you kept after refurbishing the bathroom can then be used elsewhere. Reclaiming and reusing are two easy ways to make a real difference.
Use your cleared space
Done. You’ve cleared a space, put all the rubbish in pile, called We Clear Junk to come and had it taken away, now is the time to sit back and relax. You can plan what happens next.
Whether you really do throw a lockdown party or wedding, we’d love to hear from you. How are you using the reclaimed space? Does it make you feel better or are you likely to start filling it up again with new purchases? Let us know we’d love to hear.
